Title I is a federal program that provides funding to school districts to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged students. Signed in to law in 1965, as part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), it is reauthorized by Congress periodically. The act changed from No Child Left Behind (NCLB) to Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain high-quality education.
